A planetarium theater is a unique space designed to bring the night sky indoors. Beneath a domed ceiling, a central projector recreates the stars, planets, Sun, and Moon, allowing visitors to experience the sky from any date, time, or location on Earth.

The MMSD Planetarium enhances this experience with a three-screen video system, offering an engaging and educational environment for exploring astronomy and space science.

Our 30-foot dome, illuminated by a Spitz A3P Star Projector and a collection of auxiliary projectors, seats 60 guests and welcomes approximately 20,000 visitors each year—from preschoolers to adults. Since opening in 1966, the planetarium has been a cornerstone for science education in our community.

In addition to our group and public programs, the planetarium serves as a resource for teachers, students, and the general public, offering educational materials and support related to astronomy and space science.
